DENISE GREEN

 

biography:

Denise Green has staged over 115 solo exhibitions in the USA, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Hungary, Denmark, Austria, India and Japan. She studied at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts, in Paris, from 1966-69, then went on to undertake studies at the University de Paris, La Sorbonne in 1969. She relocated to New York in 1969 and gained an MFA at Hunter College, New York, in 1976.

Her mentors range from Rothko and Motherwell to post-structuralist philosophers such as Jacques Derrida and Roland Barthes. Green is a published author, and retrospectives of her work have been staged in major museums, from MoMA PS1 (New York) to the Art Gallery of New South Wales (Sydney). Green has received numerous awards throughout her career. In 2007 she was awarded the Order of Australia.
